The Caring Hands Club
Our employee volunteer program actively participates in various community events in and around Houston. Some of of the events we have participated in, include, but are not limited to: helping to register clients for Chidren's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), fundraising events for various activities including the Walk for Obestiy and the volunteer medical staff for the Rock the Bayou concert in Houston.
University General offers assistance with various health fairs and events around the city. If you would like more information on having University General Hospital participate in your initiative, please call the University General Hospital call center at 713-659-9500.
Philanthropy and Outreach
University General Hospital is committed to strengthening the communities we serve as well as reaching out around the world to those who need a guiding hand and generous heart.
We make a difference in peoples lives. In June 2006 University General Hospital and Dr. Felix Spiegel donated lap band surgery to a patient who could not get authorization for the procedure from her insurance company. Vicente Arenas at KHOU Channel 11 Houston featured an on-air story about her situation. As a team we were able to change her life. To date, she has lost over 150 pounds. Today, she is more mobile than ever before, and is able to spend more time with her children outdoors.
Opening doors to a miracle. After many years of dreaming, Dikembe Mutombo fulfilled his dream of opening a hospital in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the help of University General Hospital. With a price tag of $29 million, the new hospital provides 300 beds and much needed healthcare to Motumbo’s impoverished hometown. Building the first hospital in Kinshasa has taken 40 years and a lot of generous donations from individuals and institutions all around the country and the world. University General Hospital was proud to donate their efforts and time to bringing quality health care and hope to the families of Kinshasa.
